The essence of adventure is in the moment. Yet all visions of the moment whether prior or post are never accurate. The moment is bound by knowledge accumulated in anticipatory effort and the air of experience that lies on the continuum between ego and humility. The ego feeds on adrenalin and manifests itself in bravado and exaggeration. Humility comes from the wisdom of scale. For the first half of your life ego dominates; thereafter your wisdom stretches the moment so that it is never before or after. It just is.
